Tunisia is in North Africa but has relations with the European Union and is a popular holiday destination with Europeans, therefore many travel insurance companies do cover Tunisia under European destinations. Turkey, Cyprus, Egypt and Morocco are also usually covered but it is best to check the policy of the travel insurance company you are booking with to double check that they do cover the destination you are visiting. Other destinations are covered in the European travel insurance because European insurance is usually lower, particularly for people travelling within Europe, as the chances of actually needing insurance are low due to higher hygiene and health and safety standards and a high standard of medical care available. Tunisia offers high standards which is why it is covered as Europe. Tunisia is such a popular destination due to the warm, sunny weather, pristine tropical beaches and an abundance of culture. Beach tourism is not the only attraction the country offers, Saharan tourism, golf tourism, cultural tourism, sport tourism and health tourism are also increasingly luring millions of holiday seekers to Tunisia. There are great swathes of desert, with stunning oasis, tropical style beaches and ancient cities, you’ll also find an abundance of carpets. The people are warm and friendly and this all makes for a very attractive destination. The old towns of Sfax and Mahdia are well worth a visit. However, a few of the coastal towns are huge tourist traps which some people will want to avoid. If you're looking for stunning scenery then the west of Tunisia is for you. You can take an old train which dates back to the 1920s, referred to as the lizard due to the way that the track winds through the mountains. You will find the south of Tunisia is mainly desert. If you are a Star Wars buff, the first film was made at the cave dwellings at Matmata. Dream Island, or to give it its official name Jerba, is another fantastic destination in the south.

Yes we found it was counted as Europe for insurance purposes. Good job it was right as first time he ended up spending a week in a clinic. Second time the food was served so cold at Sousse we were both very ill.
