If you are a British citizen then you do not need a visa to visit Canada for up to 6 months. However if you are a British subject or a British protected person then you will need a visa to enter Canada. You will have to hold a valid 10 year passport and a return ticket and proof of this must be available for immigration in Canada if they ask for it. In addition to this you must be in good health, have certain criminal charges or be inadmissible in any way and you must have enough money for your stay. This is to ensure that you are not likely to work illegally whilst you stay in Canada.
Visiting Canada
If you plan on studying when you visit Canada, you will require a visa (unless your course is 6 weeks or less). You will require a temporary resident visa and a study permit. This allows you to live in Canada during the period of your course. For your study permit and temporary resident visa you must have the following; proof of financial stability, a health check, a passport as proof of identity and a letter from the educational institution you are planning on going to. This permit allows you to work on campus whilst you are living and studying in Canada.
If you are just visiting for a holiday or travelling and want to stay in Canada for under 6 months, then as long as you are a British citizen you do not need a visa. There are also other nationalities who do not require a visa for a holiday and you can find this information on the Canadian Immigration website (www.canadainternational.gc.ca)

My Wife's Canadian Visa Expiry Date is Jan 17th 2010.  We will be arriving in Canada on Jan 9th 2010, which should be no problem for her to enter.  But we will be leaving on Jan 23rd or 24th 2010.  Will it be a problem for her to leave Canada by then?  She is using Multiple-Entrance Visa.  Thanks for any early reply.

My daughter went to Canada from England on snowboard holiday and teach in.  At end of month she decided to stay on
with her mates that got a work permit til April sorted before.  She is supporting herself financially, and not working.

Her total trip is 4months 1 week.  She doesnt have leaving date in her uk passport as I guess she
had a return trip booked.
