I will visit London, Manchester, Liverpool for the first time in few days. Any suggestion? I hate touristic spots and I like urban life!

Curiously, you can just visit the centre of all of those, take in the atmosphere without doing the tourist thing. (But London has an awful lot to offer if you do do the sightseeing thing.) Take a long walk from St Pauls Cathedral, down Ludgate Hill, along Fleet Street (passing where I used to work) along the Strand, past St Clement Danes, to Charing Cross, through Trafalgar Square, then along the Mall to Buckingham Palace. If you are fit and mobile, it will take about 90 minutes. Another day, go to Tower Bridge, the Tower of London and the City, the wealthiest square mile in the world. Visit the Docklands beyond the City, it's amazing what has been done there. Within my lifetime, the biggest port in the world, now just a "lifestyle community".

My daughter and I do a sightseeing bus tour type thing when we get somewhere. From that we take notes of the things we want to see more up close, an we have an idea of the  layout of the city. Also My husband and I have found being from a tourist destination, we can talk to locals and commiserate about tourists. Then we ask if there are any good places to go to get away from the tourists. Those have been some of the best spots we have been to in our travels.
