My impression of Colombia was just like yours, but now that I am taking Spanish, I've realized that it is an amazingly beautiful country.

However, it's still a place were a lot of drugs are smuggled and most people don't have the wealth that we do.

When you go touring in Colombia or any other place, you don't see the real condition of the country, just the tourist places which are usually really beautiful. While the people are living in poverty, you get the impression that it is a great place

The opinion I first had was invoked by the media and yes, I see it as fields of marajauna, cocoa with armies of gunmen with automatics surrounding them. Dirty, poverty stricken cities and such. I have come to realize the media only gives a closed view on what they want us to see and not reality.

I don't have at all a stererotype about Colombia. People have to open their eyes, and know that Colombia isn't all about Drug-Cartels, and murders. Colombia is a beautiful country, with rich culture. Also, Colombian people are lovely people with kind hearts.

My mental image of Colombia is basically the same as most south American countries. Lots of trees, mountains, poor people, drug barons and police corruption. I know that this is not a fair picture , but its one that is reinforced by many films.
