It takes just less than two hours to reach Exmouth from Plymouth by train services operated under the aegis of National Rail in UK. The trains are operated by the First Western Great railway at intervals of every half hour. Passengers are required to change trains at an intermediate station known as Newton Abbot. Train services between Plymouth and Exmouth commence at 6 A.M. in the morning and continue till past midnight.
The frequency of services between these two stations is due to the fact that the undergraduate and postgraduate courses of the University of Plymouth are conducted at the Exmouth campus. Some of the trains also run via Exter St Davids where one is required to change. The service beyond midnight is the only sleeper train in this route and takes five and a half hours to reach Exmouth.
