You need to check what your automobile policy says. It would need to cover the full cost of the truck and you would need to be able to cover your deductible immediately. If your policy is covers $50k with a $500 deductible you will need to come out of pocket, not only the $500 but anything over the $50k the vehicle is worth. (They almost all are worth more than that.) If you can't do that you need to buy supplemental insurance.
