Before the European white man came to the continent of Australia to settle down, it was inhabited dominantly by the native population who were called Aborigines. Their population was almost 300000 before whites came to Australia but it has dwindled down in the more recent years to a meagre 90000. However their strength is gradually increasing with the passage of years, the traditional methods with which they used to lead their lives are quickly vanishing away.
In their dominant times, the average aborigine was a hunter and a food gatherer. Their fetish and passion for wrestling was one of their noteworthy attributes. For different purposes, the aborigines produced simple and less complicated weapons, which they made from stone, wood and sometimes even animal bones. Most commonly they used the spear, the club, the boomerang, the stone axe and the knife. Amidst the interior folds of Australia, the aborigines aimed for greater preys such as the kangaroo, the wallaby and also the emu. In areas that were located around the coastline, fish was a favorite amongst the inhabitants.
The aborigines had a collective living culture. Their mode of lifestyle was tribal where they were divided into tribes. Each tribe consisted of 20 bands and each band had 60 people, who kept in close contact with each other.
