Two Planes Take Off At The Same Exact Moment. They Are Flying Across The Atlantic. One Leaves New York And Is Flying To Paris At 500 Miles Per Hour. The Other Leaves Paris And Is Flying To New York At Just 450 Miles Per Hour. Which One Will Be Closer?

If the plane going from New York was going west to Paris than it would have farther distance therefor making the plane from Paris get to its destination first. However, if the plane from New York went east to Paris the distance would be the same as the plane from Paris so it would get there first.(that took a lot of thinking)

Well in time it will be the one flying from paris because of the different time zones but if the question was phrased correctly the one from new york which was flying 50 mph faster will be closer to paris when the planes meet cause it will make more ground with the extra mph

Suppose to be a trick question but I believe it was phrased incorrectly...which one is closer? Makes no sense...regardless of the different miles per hour, they are both the same distance to each destination, but the plane flyng from New York to Paris will arrive to the destination a little sooner from flying 50mph faster

To tell you guys the truth they would meet at the same distance from Paris. The one flying from NY to Paris is flyig 50 MPH faster, but the one flying from Paris to NY is going in the direction of the rotation of the world, getting it closer to the meeting point, while the plane of NY is going with the rotation of the earth increasing its path a little more, and thus making the extra MPH useless.

Um... If they meet the two planes are in the same place, thus an equal distance away from Paris and New York. Speed of the planes, the wind speed and direction, have absolutely nothing to do with it. The people that have tried to overcomplicate answers are the ones that are WRONG.

It would be them both but ppl that say the plane goin 500mph wud get there 1st could be wrong as wind speed plays a big part it takes longer to go to us then bck as wind speed slows you down n speeds you up depend on the way it is blowing

It's both. When they meet, they'll both be the same distance from Paris....regardless of speed!

No the slower one as theyll both go different routes and you have to include factors such as wind direction which is normally from europe which increases the planes speed

People...if they are MEETING, then they are at the SAME SPOT, there fore - the same distance away from everything. Including Paris.

But if they were in the "SAME SPOT" neither plane would be there because they cant both occupy the same area as the other so one automatically has to be closer

What a douche just beause they meet doesnt mean they are equidistant from paris. Technically they could still if one plane never even left the run: One plane technically has to be the only one mving and they can still meet.

Dont know the answer though

The one going to new york, leaving paris, will get there first. Even though it is going slower, there is the jet stream there in north america

It doesnt make a difference if its new york and paris... When they meet they are both in the same place, thus the exact same distance from any point in the world

The question wants to know which plane will be closer to Paris when they meet. Well, when they meet they'll be at the same distance away from Paris so then neither will be closer than the other. Their the same distance away from Paris.

The one leaving paris because that one is in paris texas, that flys over atlantic city in new jersey. The other is leaving new york and is actually going to paris in europe and flies over the atlantic ocean.
