According to Google Maps, Houston to Fort Hood is 192 to 211 miles in which the route will determine the actual mileage. For those who travel along US290 and Texas 36 the route is 192 miles and that means it should take 3 hours and 32 minutes. Of course, this mileage is also based on entering both towns into the Get Directions option without any street addresses. One can find that with an appropriate street address in both cities the mileage will vary.

The second route shown takes US 290 all the way. This is slightly longer because one goes a little farther northeast or when traveling that highway. It also takes travelers through Hearne instead of closer to Rockdale. The route time is 3 hours and 35 minutes according to the map software.

Route three takes I-45 out or into Houston depending on which way one travels. It then takes Texas 105. This is a similar route to US 290 going through Hearne again. Route time on I-45 and taking TX 105 is 3 hours and 53 minutes. This route adds almost 30 minutes to the time it takes to travel on highways. Distance without directions is unknown, but you will probably find it is roughly 200 miles, even as a bird flies.

Fort Hood is above Austin. The nearest locations to Fort Hood include Killeen and Copperas Cove. Interstate 35 runs north to south running through Austin and down to San Antonio rather than towards Houston. In fact, the Interstates all run away from a direct route between Houston and Fort Hood. This is why state roads and highways are used for the route between Fort Hood and Houston. I-45 runs north and south, almost directly from Houston. I-10 runs from Houston to San Antonio.
