First of all I need to warn you NOT to clean it or you will completely destroy its value. The first thing you need to do it look on the back and see if it has the motto In God We Trust on the back. If it does than it is worth $500 to $600 in a the average circulated condition and $2000 in mint condition. If it doesn't have a motto on the reverse than you have a coin so rare that I can't appraise it. Either way I suggest that you send the coin to a coin grading company (I suggest ANACS since they are the cheapest and the third highest quality coin grader) to have it graded. If you don't have it officially graded than you would be extremely lucky to get a small fraction of its real value.

Its value depends on its condition, mintmarks (if any), etc. In the average circulated condition it is worth $20 without a mintmark. With an O mintmark it would be worth about $26 and it would be worth about $105 with an S mintmark. I suggest that you bring it to a coin dealer though because if it happens to be prooflike than it would be worth much more than whichever value that I listed above that pertains to it.

Go to yahoo Coins and Currency category, under hobbies >>> then collecting. dir.yahoo.com You will find lots of sites covering the art of coin collecting, and many sub-categories. In subcategory "Companies", you will find coin universe. This site offers price guidelines. Your dime could worth from 10 dollar to 2500 dollars

Prices seem to start at about 10$ and go up according to condition and where they were stamped (Minted)

I suggest checking several sites that deal with coin information, and drawing your own conclusions.
