Alternate bus routes during severe weather allows for bus drivers not to go down certain routes. Some states like Washington have completely done away with bus routes for some schools.

The no child left behind act allows for out of district transport from door to door if the parents or children are or were homeless during the school year.

Your actions can effect the requirements of the bus driver as well and the parents can end up liable for your transport.

Many dead end roads are not traveled down by the buses, the bus stop becomes the end of the road or the nearest main road intersection.
