Can I take knitting needles on a plane to Italy?

From the TSA blog:

I’m not spinning a yarn when I tell you that knitting needles and needlepoint items including scissors under four-inches are permitted in your carry-on bags. However, circular thread cutters, or any cutter with a blade must be packed in your checked baggage.

But you are flying international, so you should check with your airline.
