Remember we didn't get an opportunity to have a say in joining the EU in the first place, that is not a democracy. We couldn't fire our politicians because Brussels made our decisions for us, that is not a democracy.
We could not control immigration, and because the UK has public healthcare, social housing and benefits, the one country people will head for is the UK. Even with Camerons deal requring immigrants (people coming here from abroad) having to work for four years before they could claim benefits doesn't make it any less of an allure. Our NHS has said that it is under pressure to provide services because of the influx of people into the UK, this will affect the common man not the rich. Larger businesses thrive in the EU but smaller businesses go under because the EU does not support them. Our farmers are paid not to farm their lands in order to stay in line with the EU. With freedom of movement we cannot stop criminals coming into our country, and the ones we do have we've had difficulty deporting them.
Britain has been sold off to other countries whilst in the EU. We may manufacture cars here but we no longer "own" the car companies, other countries do. Britain has been sold off by piecemeal. We don't make anything, even though we once were the leaders in the industrial revolution. So if we had stayed in the EU we would never recover, the longer we stay in the less we will own or control. Greece, Portugal, Spain, Ireland and Cyprus have had to be bailed out. Who bails them out? We do. With others countries joining that will be more bail outs. The Italian Prime Minister described the EU like the orchestra playing on the Titanic.
We are unable to employ more skilled workers from outside the EU, because of EU regulations.
The biggest reasons for the majority wanting to leave were personal ones, and how being in the EU has negatively affected them.
When "the people" have no say, then they are under totalitarianism. Still I get the feeling that the EU is going to be like the Hotel California "You can check out but you can never leave."
