Our civilization and culture has its roots here, and you can take a walk back in time. Whatever your religion or beliefs, everyone should visit St. Peters in Rome. It is truly a wonder in its proportions, beautiful sculptures and artwork. It can be awe inspiring, as can the Vatican Art gallery and museum around the corner,
where you can see the best, finest and most precious art from any age, in the world.
The Tiber river winds through this amazing city, called the eternal city. The neighbourhoods can be explored on foot, and new sights are around every corner. Just be careful crossing the road, Italian drivers are not known for their patience.
There is really no ONE answer for this question. It's all a matter of what you enjoy the most. There are so many beautiful places in this world to go out and see and only one way to get there. -Travel. {[Or, if you're tight on money/time/ect., you could research your options first.]} Personally, {[And, unfortunately.]} I have never left the country. {[America, for me.]} I've never even been on a plane. I've always wanted to go to Italy. These are some places that I heard are amazing : Florence, Rome, Bangkok, Sydney, Chiang Mai, Thailand, Cape Town, Buenos Aires, New York, Beirut*, & San Francisco. -Ugh, to name a few.
London by far, best people, best hotels, best nightlife, lots of history, wonderful museums, art galleries, plenty to see and do. Never be bored in London. Every nationality, fast paced 24 hour party people, but also slows paced, slow walks in some of the best parks in the world. Takes a bit of beating!
Wow, a lot of people like NYC. I wonder if any of them have ever been to China. Now there's some BIG cities. It takes an open mind and adaptability to be able to adjust to the language and cultural differences, but once you do I think China takes the cake as having some of the most exciting cities in the world.
My favourite city in the world is definitely New York City. It truly is the city that never sleeps - even at 3am you can look out of the window and find something going on (even if it is just a street mugging).
There's a range of things to do. Of course, the city is renowned for its shops. It's a shopper's heaven. I don't think there's a single product that you can't find somewhere in New York City.
I've eaten in a ton of restaurants around the city from Chinese to Indian to Italian to British (which, I have to say, was my favourite and they pulled it off very well). There's something to be said for the coffee bars, too - I once went to a poetry reading evening in a certain coffee house in Downtown and it's one of my favourite memories.
There's so much art and culture, too. There are a number of art galleries and museums to cater to the historical buffs that might be visiting. There really is something for everyone.

In my experience, & I would like to add I have only been to other states within USA, but about 20-25 or so, Honolulu is by far the most exquisite, breath taking, extraordinary, mind blowing, and fascinating! Also, while you are there, you can take a cruise which will take from one island to the next, enabling you to see and visit all 8! It does not get any better than that!
I was watching Dr. Phill and they did a study and it said that new york was the nicest(kindest) city in America! Also it has a feeling about it.
In addition to new york, even though it isn't a city although it is the size of several, Disney world is the happiest place on earth!

I'm a country girl at heart, but I have to admit, that once you've been to New York City, every other city will be a disappointment. It has a little of everything except anything to compare to it.

NYC..I Love. I moved to chicago after sometime while I stayed in NYC. Chicago is a great place too but after being in NY its no where comparable. I miss NY.. :(
I always loved San Francisco. It has everything for everybody. I lived near there for as long as I could afford it, then moved East to retire.
New York is the greatest city in the world. It's so fast-paced, filled with flair for the arts, theatre and food. It has such a great diversity, that you can never want for variety and excitement in NYC.
Macchu Picchu - 'The Lost City of the Inca's'
Although it's technically not still 'in use' I think Machu Picchu has got to be one of the world's most wonderful cities. It's an Inca site, located upon a mountain top and 2,400 metres above sea level.
It was built in the 15th century but abandoned soon after due to the Spanish colonisation of Peru. Machu Picchu is known as the 'lost city of the Inca's' because it was not discovered by the outside world until 1911! Although the site had still been known by some locals to the area.
