It was founded in the year 1905 and was formally incorporated as a city in the year 1911 and is said to be the biggest American city to be established during the 20th century. The main hub of gambling in America, Las Vegas is often promoted as "The Entertainment Capital of the World" and occasionally referred to as "Sin City".

According to the census conducted in the year 2001 the total are of this region was said to be 131.3 square miles. The census report of 2001 also stated that the total population of this region was 591,536 having an average population density of 4,154 per square mile.
