Apart from the sun, the nearest star is so far away that the distance from the moon (as opposed to the distance from the Earth) is virtually meaningless. The nearest star is PROXIMA CENTAURI at over 4 light years distance. That is, it takes light (travelling at around 186,000 miles per SECOND !) over 4 years to travel from PROXIMA CENTAURI to us. So the paltry 240,000 miles between the Earth and the moon isn't really relevant.
