The small island of the British Isles, Jersey, has a currency of its' own. When there, the Jersey pound is used and distributed. The value of the Jersey pound is on par with the British pound and Queen Elisabeth II can be seen on current Jersey pound notes. This being said, however, the British pound is also used in Jersey as are Scottish banknotes and the Guernsey pound. All these notes are distributed and circulate along side each other and all are legal tender on Jersey Island. Prior to the Jersey pound, the livre tournois was, for centuries, the legal currency used in Jersey. Abolished during the French Revolutionary period, it remained the legal currency until 1837. The British pound was also used, at this time, alongside the livre tournois and it wasn't until 1971 that Jersey, along with the other islands of the British Isles, started circulating a currency all of their own.
