There is no one owner of the British Airways. The airline was privatised in February 1987. It was floated on the London Stock Exchange. What this means is that its shares are freely traded and can be bought by members of the general public when sold by other holders.

As far back as 1981 Sir John King was appointed chairman of the then nationalised carrier to prepare it for privatisation as part of the Conservative Governments Policy. British Airways Ltd. was originally a private company in 1935 but was nationalised by the government in 1939.

British Airways the national carrier of the United Kingdom is one of the largest carriers in Europe. In 1976 British Airways along with Air France unveiled Concorde the world's only supersonic passenger service. Due to safety reasons the Concorde was recently phased out.
