Straightline distance is 1477 km (917 miles) from LAX right to the Cape.
I flew it once (the airport, anyway), takes about 4 hours from LAX or 3.5 hours from San Diego or Tijuana.
Driving is not to be recommended, although roads in Baja have improved vastly in last 20 years. Still a long way to go in Mexico. About 2500 km if you do try to drive it.
It's very dry down at Cabo. Water is expensive and should be treated as a more precious resource than it is. Nothing much can be grown locally and all the non-seafood for the tourists has to be imported.
