Hi all! So I've been making a long term plan to go to the States on holiday but with the prospect of possibly moving... What are good places to look into and places to AVOID :P?

That really depends on what your interests are. Do you like to be in the city? Around the beach? In the mountains? What do you enjoy doing? Answers to those questions are going to determine where the best places for you to visit would be!

Well, if you're wanting to avoid touristy cities like New York, Los Angeles, the East coast is very historical, Pennsylvania, New England states, West Virginia, Virginia....in the fall, any of these states offer beautiful tree foliage...West Virginia should be particularly beautiful this year due to all the rain we've had. Nice lakes, camping, fishing, skiing (if you're here during winter) white water rafting, zip lines, Cass railroad train excursion in the fall...beautiful train ride into the mountains. Further south, beaches, Virginia, Myrtle, then of course Florida with Disney and all the beaches there. Wherever you go, have fun!

Go to New Hampshire! It's so pretty in the fall, and we endure all four seasons, so you can really see which season you like the most :) And also I'm here soooo you should come visit me.

If we have a decent Winter for a change, think about coming out to California. So much to see and do all over the state. From the Gold rush to the beaches at Santa Cruz. I love this state !

I am assuming you are from the UK. If so you must realize how big in area the US is. Look at the miles/km between cities, not how close they look on the map. People from UK have been in Boston, and assumed they could drive to Montana for a day trip. Its much bigger than a map seems.

The U.S. Is a gigantic country.  There are great places in every state.  You should be more specific about what you don't like.

I wouldn't recommend Ohio or Indiana to anyone.

Arizona has a low cost of living, good realestate market, straight raods for easy navigation, easy winters and is about 4-6 drive to California, Colorado or Nevada. Arizona also has fairly low tax and a decent job market.

Alabama is a nice place for vacations. The peaceful environment and the breathtaking views are best for relaxing and reading across the beach side. There are many other adventurous activities which might make your visit memorable.
