According to the Federal foreign office, Citizens of the United States do not require a visa to enter into Germany; this includes citizens of Virgin Islands of the United States, American Samoa, Guam and Puerto Rico.  If required, citizens of United States may obtain a residence and/or work permit after entry. The US citizens are considered to be a part of ‘privileged nations’ as they can enter the country without visa.
