This obviously depends on which part of Essex and which part of London you wish to travel to and from. If we take for example Southend in Essex and Tower Bridge in London the distance is around 40 miles.

If you were to travel by car between the two locations it is said to take around one hour and seven minutes. The quickest car route is via the A13. If you were to drive from Southend you would first head west on the A13 towards Queensway, then exit the roundabout onto Victoria Ave/A127. You would continue to follow the A127 for around seven miles.

You would then take the A1245 exit toward Chelmsford/Canvey Island/A130. At the roundabout, take the first exit onto A1245 heading to Chelmsford/S Woodham Ferrers/Canvey Island/A130. Then at the next roundabout, take the second exit onto London Rd/A13. Continue to follow A13 for around 27 miles.

Then continue onto E India Dock Rd Tunnel/A1261 (signs for Isle of Dogs) and follow A1261. You would then take a slight right onto Limehouse Link/A1203 and continue to follow the A1203. Then turn left onto Tower Bridge approach, continue to follow the A100 and you will see Tower Bridge on the right. This journey is said to use around £8 of fuel.
