A paragraph is usually about 100 words long, so this is an extremely simple task, particularly when the summer holidays can last over six weeks. Sit down for 10 minutes and brainstorm all the things you did over the holidays. You do not need to write it into perfect sentences, just jot down some of the things you did. Think about how you felt on the first weekend that school finished and what you did that weekend. Think of the whole holiday chronologically and work through every week until you have jotted down all of the main events. You will not remember everything, but that does not matter. Think of all the things you enjoyed and even the things you did not enjoy. Talk to your friends and your parents who may help you remember some of the things you may have forgotten about.
Once you have jotted down everything you did, you can start writing your paragraph. Begin with the sentence ‘Over the summer holidays I....’ and it really should come naturally to you. If you went on holiday, away for a weekend or simply left your usual neighbourhood to visit friends or family, write it down. Explain how you got there, who you went with, how long you went for and what you did when you arrived. What did you eat? What did you play? What did you enjoy the most? Was there anything you didn’t enjoy? Did you make any new friends over the holidays? Did you learn any new games? Did you watch any good films or go to the cinema? Did you do any activities such as swimming or football? What was the weather like during your holidays and did this affect your plans at all? Was it too hot to play in the sun all day or did it rain when you wanted to go to the beach?
