Providence is the capital and biggest city in the state of Rhode Island in the United States. Boston is the capital and most populous city in the state of Massachusetts. If someone wants to travel between the two cities it is important to know the distance between the two. There are a variety of ways to calculate the distance depending on the method of transportation used. For cars if you own a GPS (Global Positioning System) it will tell you the distance, time required as well as giving you detailed directions on how to get to your destination. If you travel a lot then it is worthwhile investing in one of these devices as they will save a lot of time and hassle and make journeys less stressful and now they can be bought for around $150-$200. If you do not want to have a GPS system then you can use websites such as ViaMichelin (www.viamichelin.co.uk/) that plan the route for you. The directions can then be printed off and used on the journey. According to ViaMichelin the distance is 50 miles, of which 48 is on motorways. This route usually only takes little over an hour to complete. Another alternative to find out the distance between two places is to use the scale on the map, however this only finds out the distance via air and depending on the scale can be very inaccurate and is therefore not recommended. In conclusion the distance between the two cities is 50 miles by car, however if you travel a lot it is recommended that you buy a GPS or failing that use websites such as ViaMichelin to plan your journeys.
