Visas to visit the UK are handled by the UK Border Agency Team at the High Commission in Kingston, Jamaica but all applications must be completed, and paid for, online. Once the application is submitted and paid for, the applicant will be given an appointment to attend the High Commission, where they will have to submit their biometric fingerprints and supporting documents.
It is important to note that anyone who attempts to do this without an appointment, and therefore without having gone through the online process, will not be admitted to the High Commission. To make an application for a UK Visitor’s Visa, go to www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk.
When you do so, you are advised to have your passport, the address where you will be staying in the UK, your intended itinerary while in the UK and an email address ready for use in the application process. You are also required to print out your visa application form, so you will need to be on a computer connected to a printer. Applications for a visitor’s visa are subject to the law and to the visa process - they may be refused, and you can be banned from returning to the UK for 10 years if you use a false document, lie or withhold relevant information in the visa application process.
A visitor’s visa for visits up to six months costs £70, and the supporting documentation required when visiting the High Commission includes: A letter from your employer granting leave of absence from your job for a specified period, evidence of any property you own, evidence of family or social ties and responsibilities to return to, evidence of any firm travel plans; bank statements going back several months, and evidence of savings.
