When deciding to travel abroad, there are number of options available that do not require a visa to those who own a British passport. Firstly, one must consider the EC countries, meaning those who all belong to the European Economic Community.

This includes Italy, Spain, France and Poland. You can also visit those territories overseas that are controlled by an EEC member, such as Gibraltar and Aruba as well as the small Caribbean islands which are still under British rule such as Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis and a few of the smaller French islands in the Caribbean area.

Unfortunately, everywhere else you decide to go will require a visa of some description even for tourist purposes. You may be able to obtain a visa on entry such as the United States or paid for on arrival as is the case in Turkey. If you want to work outside the EC you will certainly require a visa.

As well as anywhere in the EU, visitors with a British passport can visit New Zealand, USA, Canada, Thailand, Egypt, Brunei, Switzerland, Norway, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, UAE, Jordon, Turkey, Tunisia, Ireland and Morocco.

There are 166 destinations open to those who have a British passport and who don’t need a visa to visit across the globe. You are entitled to stay for at least three days, for business or pleasure, without a visa.

This year, the UK has displaced Denmark, whose citizens have the opportunity to go to 164 countries without visas, from first position. Do check though when you reach other destinations as some may require just a stamp or there may be others such as India where you will need to prepare a series of documents and queue up in passport offices.
