As a resident of Pakistan, you will be required to obtain a Schengen visa before entering any of the 15 countries that participate in the agreement. To retrieve a Schengen visa, you will be required to fill out an application form and submit it online for consideration.

A Schengen visa is essentially a document that is designed for those who are visiting one of the participating countries on a visit. It is also tremendously useful for those who are looking to apply for a visa to confirm permanent residency in a particular European country.

The Schengen visas are sometimes divided into sub categories in order to recognise the purpose of your visit. The difference being is some of these visas are designed for business visits and others for tourist visas. Obviously you can apply for whichever visa best suits the purpose of your visit.

It is also important to note that the United Kingdom and Ireland are not a part of this Schengen visa system. Alternative arrangements and negotiations will need to be made with countries that are not a part of this agreement.

The easiest way to apply for your Schengen visa is online. The official website will tell you absolutely everything you need to know to commence applying for your temporary residency in the destination of your choice. You must ensure that you apply for your Schengen visa before you travel to avoid complications.

You also need to consider if you will require a multiple entry visa. Some countries provide this service to allow you multiple re-entry into the country after your initial visit. Having said that, some countries will only issue single entry, so you will need to investigate this before you apply.

All of this can be negotiated with the consulate or embassy of the particular Schengen country you are wishing to visit.

There are 30 countries for which most of them are EU countries who have signed the Schengen agreement but there are only 15 European member countries who implemented it so far. These countries include Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden with the exception of Norway and Iceland who are not members of European countries but they have signed the Schengen agreement. You can travel to all of these countries without any hassle if you get the Schengen visa. The visit visa has the following requirements;

1. Visa application forms duly filled with one passport size photograph (size 3.5 cm x 3.5 cm).
2. All the passports and their photocopies.
3. Bank statement, one in original and one photocopy as required must have enough balance to cover your visit cost.
4. Original letter of Invitation in Dutch Language.
5. A return confirmed Air Travel tickets with a copy of reservation plus a photocopy of the ticket.
6. Proof of Travel Accident Insurance.
7. Copies of valid Visa of the country if you want to travel ahead.
8. Copies of Visas issued during the last three years.
9. Copies of the Schengen Visas already issued and used.
10. Provide document from your employer about your salary, designation and permission to travel to Schengen countries with allowed leave if you are an employee.

You must arrange your journey within the time frame of the Visa because extensions can be difficult and you can stay not more than 90 days in a six months period.

You do need a Schengen visa to visit France. France gives schengen visas to visitors of UK. But the requirement is that there should be at least 3 months validity left on the UK visitor visa after your trip to France. Also the visa processing time goes up to 6 weeks.
Belgium is another country which accepts applications from visitors to uk and the processing time is only 15 days though the schengen visa it gives is single entry only.

You can get a schengen visa for only one of these: Leisure, tourism, or business. Also, know that the schengen visa holders are not allowed to live permanently or work in Europe. Go to this website and download the visa application guide: www.schengenvisa.cc. The bad news is you will have to buy it just to know what the process is and whether you are eligible for it or not.

Well, I don't think that you actually have to apply for a Schengen Visa, because once you are in EU then you don't have any problem to travel around. You can easily travel in the countries that are a part of EU. Think of having a visa to th EU and not just the UK. The agreement between the EU countries is that once you are a visitor in one of those countries you can be a visitor in all of the other countries as well.

Thinking of the difficult part, if you are in UK for short term then there might be some complications. It would be perfect if you apply from you home country.

Best of Luck!
