As such, there is really no procedure for renewing the U.S. Visa. You will have to apply all over again, including paying all the fees and going for the personal interview.
However, if you are eligible to renew the visa as described below, you might have some advantages of early appointment and less scrutiny of your case.
Visa renewal appointments are available to visa applicants who:
1.Have the same class of U.S. Visa which is still valid or that has expired less than 12 months from the scheduled date of interview.
2.Wish to apply for the same visa class (e.g. Had an H1 work visa, now applying again for an H1 work visa).
3.Are Indian nationals (hold Indian passports).
4.Are residents in the New Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai or Hyderabad consular districts (Applicants attending the interview at the U.S. Consulate, Kolkata do not have an option to select the option for visa renewal. They may opt for a regular interview).
The following applicants do NOT qualify for appointments in the visa renewal category:
1.Applicants who have never had a U.S. Visa.
2.Applicants who have a U.S. Visa that expired more than 12 months ago.
3.Applicants whose last valid visa has been either cancelled or revoked.
4.Applicants applying for a different visa class (e.g. Had a F1 student visa, now applying for a H1 work visa).
5.Non Indian passport holders.
6.Applicants applying at the U.S. Consulate in Kolkata.
7.First time H4 or L2 applicants over 18 years of age. (If you have recently married an H1b or L1 visa holder but have never had a visa interview for an H4 visa or L2 visa, you may not schedule in the renewal category).
8.Applicants applying for more than one visa at the same time (e.g. F and B1/B2).
9.Applicants applying for entertainment/performance visas (P3 category).
10.Applicants applying for unskilled worker visas (H2b category).
11.Applicants who have lost their previous passports that had the valid or expired US visa.
All visa renewal applicants should bring the following documents to the Embassy/Consulate Consular Section on the day of their appointment:
1.Current, valid passport.
2.Passports containing previously issued U.S. Visas.
3.As applicable, I-797 (H and L), I-20 (F & M students), DS-2019 (J visa applicants).
