For Ghanaian passport-holders planning to travel to Taiwan (also known as The Republic of China or ROC), the visa application is relatively complicated. This is chiefly due to the fact that the state of Taiwan is not recognized by the United Nations.

Is there a Taiwanese Embassy or Consulate in Ghana?

Unfortunately, due to the ongoing debate regarding the legitimacy of the Taiwanese state, there is no Taiwanese mission in Ghana. The closest Taiwanese embassy is in bordering Burkina Faso, located in the city of Ouagadougou.

To arrange a visa application, I would advise contacting the embassy and seeing whether there is a possibility that your application can be processed by mail. Otherwise, you may be required to travel to Burkina Faso to receive your visa.

People from Burkina Faso are not charged for their visa applications. For people of other nationalities, such as Ghanaians, the prices are as follows:

Single entry: 25,000 F CFA
Multiple entry: 50,000 F CFA

If you a have a Ghanaian passport, you have special visa requirements that need to be fulfilled. You will have to find out where the embassy of Taiwan is located in your country.

If the city where the embassy is located is not close to yours, you should find out if there is a consulate to the embassy of Taiwan in your city.

If you have the address of the embassy, you should post them your original Ghana passport along with two passport sized photographs which have been taken recently.

In order to get a visa, it is important that you show a proof of a round-trip airline ticket. If you need to acquire a visa for business purposes, you also need to write a letter to the Taiwan Economic Cultural Representative Office.

You should write this letter on the letterhead of your company. The letter should contain the signature of your company executive. In the letter, you must also mention the nature of business, the companies to be visited in Taiwan and the duration of your stay.
