The application for a Permanent Residence Visa (or D Visa) is slightly complex.Before you even start your application, the Chinese authorities require that you:
- Agree to abide by China's laws
- Are in good health
- Have no criminal record
- People who have direct and stable investments in China
- People who hold a position of great responsibility within their workplace, and have held this position for no less than 4 years. (For example, a professor, a researcher, a CEO.)
- People who have contributed to China in a significant way
- A spouse or child of someone who qualifies for permanent residency
- The spouse (or child) of a Chinese citizen or someone who has qualified for for permanent residency (although there are additional criteria in this case relating to income, length of marriage etc...)
The first thing you'll obviously need is a valid passport from your country of origin. Following this, the following documents need to be provided with your application:
- A health guarantee certificate from an embassy or consulate approved medical organization.
- A statement for your local embassy or consulate that can authenticate a clean criminal history
- Four recent color photos
